Minor or Concentration

Overview
Students can choose between a minor (24 credits) in Deaf Studies or a concentration (18 credits) in American Sign Language to gain fundamental communication skills in American Sign Language (ASL) and basic knowledge of Deaf Culture. All courses are taken online.

Objectives
- Exhibit practical expressive and receptive competency in American Sign Language.
- Demonstrate a critical understanding of people who are deaf within the United States and internationally.
- Apply cultural responsiveness, industry standards, ethics, and professionalism when working with clients/consumers.
- Employ critical reflection and reflexivity in their professional practice.

- Engage in critical inquiry into the ideological construction of deaf people, sign language, interpreting, and access from a socio-cultural and human rights perspective.
